Why every maintenance plan starts here

There are thousands of hosting providers, each with their own control panels and ways of managing a server. To offer a consistent maintenance service, I need every server to use the same management tool. That tool is Ploi.

Ploi gives me one consistent interface for deployments, backups, scheduled tasks, monitoring, and updates. Same process, same standards, every site I maintain.

For maintenance to work properly, your site needs to live on a Ploi-managed server. This service handles that move.

Your hosting, your choice

You have two options.

If your organisation already runs its own hosting, most likely on Microsoft Azure or Amazon Lightsail, you can stay there. Ploi works with both.

If it doesn't, I'll recommend a provider. That's usually DigitalOcean or Hetzner, which are both secure and can grow with your site.

Either way, the Ploi account and the hosting account are set up in your name. You pay the providers directly and keep full control. I only have the access you give me.

How the move works

I start with the upgraded copy of your site, then set up both staging and production servers through Ploi. Both are tested before any DNS changes happen, so your live site and hosting stay running throughout. Visitors don't notice a thing.

Before any DNS changes, I put your upgraded site on both new servers. Your team then points the staging subdomain at the new staging server, and we test it there. Once that's working, your team points the main domain at the new production server. When I've confirmed it's resolving correctly, you can switch off the old hosting at your end.

• The upgraded copy of your site, from the upgrade stage, goes onto new staging and production servers. Both are set up through Ploi and fully tested before any DNS changes.

• Server logs set to keep 90 days of history, then delete automatically, matching the monitoring data and my data processing terms.

• Your team updates the website DNS records when we are ready. Email records are left alone.

• Search rankings protected by preserving URLs, redirects, and metadata.

• Your existing site and hosting stay live throughout, so you can decommission them at your own pace once DNS has propagated.

What I need from you

• Create a Ploi account in your name and give me access.

• Decide whether to stay with your current hosting provider or use one I recommend.

If your own team did the upgrade, I'll also need two things I would otherwise already have:

• Access to the Git repository for your website, so I can take a copy of the upgraded site.

• A copy of your .env file, which holds the site's settings, so I can get that copy running.

Once the move is complete, the site looks identical to your visitors. Same URLs, same content, same behaviour. What's different is what's underneath: a server that's ready to plug straight into the maintenance service.
