Statamic Migration

Hosting providers all do things differently. I use Ploi to manage servers, which means I can apply the same toolkit to every Statamic site I maintain, no matter who hosts it. Before maintenance can start, your site needs to be on a Ploi-managed server. This is the move that gets it there.

Why every maintenance plan starts here

There are thousands of hosting providers, each with their own control panels and ways of managing a server. To offer a consistent maintenance service, I need every server to use the same management tool. That tool is Ploi.

Ploi gives me one consistent interface for deployments, backups, scheduled tasks, monitoring, and updates. Same process, same standards, every site I maintain.

For maintenance to work properly, your site needs to live on a Ploi-managed server. This service handles that move.

You stay in control of the infrastructure

You have two hosting options. Stay with your current provider, often the case for larger organisations who already have a preferred host for other applications, or use Hetzner, the host I recommend for Statamic.

Either way, both the Ploi account and the hosting account are set up in your name. You pay the providers directly and keep full control of the infrastructure. You simply give me access to do the work.

Your site needs to be running the latest version of Statamic before the move begins. You can handle the upgrade in-house, or use my Statamic Upgrade service if you'd rather hand it over.

How the move works

I start with a local copy of your site, then provision both staging and production servers through Ploi. Both are tested before any DNS changes happen, so your live site and hosting stay running throughout. Visitors don't notice a thing.

When everything checks out, your team updates the website DNS records. We do staging first and test again, then point production across. Once DNS has propagated and I've confirmed the domain is resolving to the new server, you can deactivate the old hosting at your end.

  • Local copy set up first, then staging and production servers provisioned through Ploi and fully tested before any DNS changes.

  • Your team updates the website DNS records when we are ready. Email records are left alone.

  • Search rankings protected by preserving URLs, redirects, and metadata.

  • Your existing site and hosting stay live throughout, so you can decommission them at your own pace once DNS has propagated.

What I need from you

  • Add me as a member or collaborator on the Git repository for your website, so I can pull a local copy of the site.

  • Share a copy of your local .env file, so the site can be brought up locally before anything else.

  • Create a Ploi account in your name and give me access.

  • Decide whether to stay with your current hosting provider or use Hetzner, the host I recommend for Statamic.

Once the move is complete, the site looks identical to your visitors. Same URLs, same content, same behaviour. What's different is what's underneath: a server that's ready to plug straight into the maintenance service.
